| History
For several months, in the late 1990's, Jeff Boyer and Jo Mayer discussed the idea of a community theater group for the Stockbridge area.
In September 2000, the first "organized" meeting was called and the turnout was fantastic. Some of the original group members include Lauren Auge, Andy Beebe,Terri Beebe Becky Fahmie, Joy Fahmie, Aaron Grenier, and Joann Moore. The Town Hall Players were Born!!!
It took only 4 meetings to find a script, plan, audition, and find a theater. Our first production was the classic Cheaper by the Dozen which opened in May of 2001 at the historic Stockbridge Town Hall.
Membership
By definition, a member of the Town hall Players is anyone who has attended at least one meeting, or participated in at least one production, and has paid their dues.
Volunteers
The Town Hall Players depend greatly on volunteers. Volunteers accomplish everything: the performers, musicians, backstage crews, choreographers, ushers, clerical staff, set builders and everyone else involved in a production.
We are constantly looking for more people to help. Town Hall Players also serve in all aspects of technical and artistic publicity, fiscal management, planning, special events, fund raising and show development. Volunteerism is the backbone of our community theatre group. Many volunteer opportunities are available for on and off stage participation.
Board of Directors
A board of directors governs the Town Hall Players, like most non-profit organizations. These positions include a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary and a Treasurer.
The board is responsible for setting "the big picture" and establishing policy for the theatre. Elections of new board members and officers occur every two years in the month of May. Standing Committees: All committees meet under the direction of the Board of Directors. These committees must assign a chair and secretary and have recorded minutes at every meeting. A copy of the minutes must be forwarded to the Board of Directors secretary.
Fund-Raising Committee
This group is responsible for finding feasible ways to raise money. This includes grant writing, special events planning, benefits, etc. If you think you have imaginative ways to raise money, this group wants you! If you have a good idea, pass it along.
Production Selection Committee
This group researches appropriate shows for the next season and determines season content (what plays will be done in a coming year).
Membership Committee
This group serves to improve communication between Town Hall Players and its members and finds people from the surrounding communities that might have an interest in community theatre.
Revenue Sources
While Town Hall Players major source of revenues are generated through ticket sales, the annual patron plan, corporate advertising plans, and grants are also used to help support our endeavors. These subsidies allow Town Hall Players to successfully meet operational, capital and developmental needs while we continue our mission of being a quality recreational outlet. The public support received by our organization helps to ensure a cultural environment that is attractive to current and perspective businesses and industries, this improving the overall quality of cultural life in our community.
